‘Scapegoat’: The lonely life of doctor who helped pinpoint Osama bin Laden

Dr. Shakeel Afridi assisted the CIA in finding Osama bin Laden and is in prison in Pakistan, held in solitude and can see his family only twice a month. The Koran is the only book he is permitted to have.

Dr. Afridi, at the Americans’ urging, used a vaccine campaign to help the CIA determine the location of bin Laden, reports Africa News.

He was imprisoned a few weeks after the raid on bin Laden’s compound. While never directly linked to the raid, he was sentenced to 33 years in prison.
