Patriotic tattoos support Decatur’s 9/11 Memorial fund

To raise funds for the Decatur 9/11 Memorial, Oakwood Tattoo hosted their second annual Tats for the Towers event last week, hoping to beat last year’s total of $4,000, writes Valerie Wells in the Herald & Review. June 16, 2017

Such a long queue was formed for the event that those wanting tattoos were given numbers, with those coming later sent away to get drinks and come back.

Decatur’s 9/11 Memorial will stand in Nelson Park. The fundraising goal to complete the memorial is $240,000. $18,000 needs to raise before July 1, 2017 in order to get authorization for building to begin.

The memorial’s main feature is a beam from the World Trade Center with a file cabinet melted into it. A piece of United Flight 93 is also included, and the memorial’s five-sided base remembers the attack on the Pentagon.
