NYPD needs to ‘break the silence’ around cop suicides: priest

Father Joseph Fonti, while officiating at the funeral of NYPD Deputy Inspector Denis Mullaney, urged the attending police officers to “break the silence” around suicide, reports Dana Kennedy for the NY Post.

Deputy Inspector Mullaney, 44, the commander of the 107th Precinct, shot himself last week.

Fonti told the mourners, “If you suffer from cancer people run to you and they do anything for you. If you tell them you suffer from mental illness or anxiety they try but they get scared or they get uncomfortable.”
