Sayville hero James Bast honored in street renaming ceremony

Retired NYPD Sergeant James P. Bast died on January 14, 2020 of World Trade Center-related cancer at the age of 49.

On his 51st birthday, he was honored by the town of Islip with a street renaming. Behrendt Court is now Sgt. James P. Bast Way, reports Priscila Korb for the Sayville Patch.

Sergeant Bast had a 23-year career with the NYPD. He retired from the force’s Intelligence Bureau’s Municipal Security Section.
