John A. Sorrentino, who gave strangers refuge at his Lower Manhattan pizzeria on 9/11, dies at 73

During the terrorist attacks of 9/11, John Sorrentino’s pizzeria on Maiden Lane in lower Manhattan became a refuge for people running from the Towers. The September 11th community is now saddened to learn of Sorrentino’s death at age 73.

“He said, ‘You can do whatever you want, take whatever you want, just leave the phone alone because I need to hear from my girls.’ I remember him saying that,” Sorrentino’s daughter Katherine Coletti, told Annalise Knudson of the Staten Island Advance.

Details about his wake and funeral can be found on our events pages here.
