Even in the midst of Afghan peace talks, the Taliban still deny al Qaeda was behind 9/11

The Taliban’s top spokesperson, Suhail Shaheen, has claimed that al Qaeda is not responsible for the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, saying, “It is not known who is behind that,” during a recent CBS interview.

Shaheen’s denial comes as peace talks between the US and the Taliban are being attempted. A key demand of the US is that the Taliban forbids al Qaeda to operate in their territories. Thus far, the Taliban is unwilling to do so, reports Adam Taylor for the Washington Post.
