Art at work: Kadir Nelson and Hennessy unveil Marshall “Major” Taylor sculpture at NYC’s WTC3

The World Trade Center’s arts initiative will display its first artwork, a statue of Marshall “Major” Taylor, a nineteenth-century African-American cyclist who achieved international fame for his domination of the sport of cycling. The statue by sculptor Kadir Nelson, titled The Major, can be seen later this year at the north entrance of 3 World Trade Center, as the first artwork to be displayed at the site.

Nelson will have a studio in 3WTC.

A 7-minute documentary about Marshall Taylor can be seen here, reports Datwon Thomas for Vibe.
