USS Arlington Sailors give back to the community

Earlier this month, twelve USS Arlington Sailors bagged 5,400 meals for elementary-school children at the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

The USS Arlington is the Navy ship that honors the 184 innocent people killed aboard American Airlines Flight 77 and at the Pentagon during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“I had no idea that we would affect that many kids, or that we were even affecting kids. It’s gratifying to see that we finally got to do what the Sailors wanted to do for months,” Lt. Mark White, the ship’s chaplain and organizer of the event, told Petty Officer 2nd Class John Bellino.

It was the ship’s first charity event since COVID-19 measures have been in place.
