Stacey Sennas McGowan and Welles Remy Crowther inducted into Nyack HS Athletic Hall of Fame

The charter class of the Nyack High School Athletic Hall of Fame included two people who were killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Welles Remy Crowther and Stacey Sennas McGowan.

The Hall of Fame was established in 2014. A committee of 13 Nyack alumni, coaches, administrators and community members chose the honorees, writes Jamie Kempton in the Rockland County Times on December 31, 2015.

Stacey Sennas McGowan, class of 1981, was inducted for athleticism and community service. She was a lacrosse, tennis and swimming athlete at Nyack and a lacrosse player at Boston College. McGowan, 38, was killed while working for Sandler O’Neill & Partners in Tower 2.

Welles Remy Crowther, class of 1995, also earned his berth by a combination of athleticism and community service. He played lacrosse, ice hockey and soccer at Nyack, and four years of lacrosse at Boston College. He died in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks while ushering World Trade Center occupants to safety. He has been commemorated as “The Man in the Red Bandanna.”
