St. Peter’s Blake Gonzalez wins annual Robert Curatolo scholarship

Blake William Gonzalez will receive the 16th annual Robert Curatolo Scholarship worth $5,000 to attend St. Peter’s University. He plans to play baseball for SPU, reports Charlie De Biase Jr. for the Staten Island Advance.

Robert Curatolo was an FDNY firefighter at Ladder 16. He became one of the 343 firefighters killed while responding to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 at the age of 31.

The scholarship that honors him is awarded annually to a Staten Island high school senior who participates in baseball or softball with a parent or guardian who is or was a NYPD police officer, FDNY firefighter or NY/NJ Port Authority police officer.
