On March 14, 2021, a blood drive was held in Hartsdale, NY in honor of NYPD Sergeant Peter Woods, 59, who died of World Trade Center-related leukemia in January.
Sacred Heart Church in Hartsdale NY, where Woods was a longtime parishioner, told News 12 that it hosted the blood drive to honor Woods and help with the current blood shortage.
Similar blood drives helped Sergeant Woods during his battle with cancer.
“He told me that the only reason he was alive was because he received five units of blood from the selfless generosity of five strangers,” says Woods’ daughter, Anna Woods.
