Retired FDNY fireboat, the John D. McKean, in service during 9/11 and miracle on the Hudson, undergoes restoration

The Fireboat McKean Preservation Project hopes to save the FDNY fireboat John D. McKean, which pumped water to the World Trade Center during the 9/11 terrorist attacks and responded to the “miracle on the Hudson” plane crash in 2014.

The John D. McKean is currently undergoing restoration.

The John D. McKean, then called Marine Co. 1, served the FDNY for 58 years, and featured in historic events. Now funding is needed to preserve the vessel, reports the River Journal.
