Retired FDNY Captain Tom Colucci to become Catholic priest for New York Archdiocese: ‘Now I will save souls.”

Retired FDNY Captain Tom Colucci, who responded to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center with Ladder 3, became a Catholic priest on May 29, 2016. He wore a St. Florian medal and and FDNY tshirt under his robes.

Colucci retired as Captain of 21 Engine in 2005 after a serious line-of-duty head injury. His colleagues there gave him priest’s vestments in fire-engine red, embroidered with “Brothers forever”.

Colucci is the first FDNY member to become a priest, reports Thomas Tracy in the New York Daily News. Father Colucci will be the officiant at the FDNY’s 9/11 Mass this September.
