Plans to renovate Woodside’s Doughboy Plaza and memorial to 9/11 victims revealed

A 9/11 memorial in Queens is scheduled to be renovated as part of a $1.5 million renovation of Doughboy Plaza, a Woodside park that contains the memorial plaque honoring the 34 people from the neighborhood killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and a World War I memorial.

Community Board 2 approved the renovation plans this month. Plans include, new lighting, replacing broken paving, the addition of a garden with seating and a fountain and the temporary removal of the September 11th plaque for cleaning and the restoration of the plaque. The design has not yet been finalized. When it is, the renovation of Doughboy Plaza should be completed by 2020, reports Angela Matua for Queens.com.
