Organ nearly destroyed in 9/11 attacks finds new home in Georgia

A church organ from Trinity Church on Wall Street that was nearly destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 has been restored and given a new home in Atlanta writes Craig Lucie of Channel 2.

The vintage Aeolian-Skinner Opus 408D pipe organ was so filled with debris from the collapse of the World Trade Center three blocks away, that it was unplayable.

It has been moved to Johns Creek United Methodist Church in Atlanta and cleaned and restored. 95% of the organ is from Trinity Church.

The organ should be ready to be heard again for the November 20 worship service and a service will be held in January, 2017 to honor those lost in the attacks and to dedicate the organ.
