At this year’s Little League World Series, viewers can see the number 11 on the right field wall at Lamade Stadium. The number 11 has been retired and will never be worn again at the Little League World Series, reported Mike Stevens of WNEP.
The number 11 was worn by FDNY Firefighter Michael Cammarata, who played in the Little League World Series in 1991 at the age of 12. On September 11, 2001, he was the youngest FDNY firefighter to be murdered in the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center.
Michael Cammarata is also honored in the Little League Hall of Excellence.
