In Miami area collapse, echoes of 9/11 in the grief and rubble

Eerie similarities exist between the collapse of the World Trade Center and the collapse of Miami’s Champlain Towers South apartment building.

Retired FDNY Assistant Chief Joseph Pfeifer, who is a September 11th family member in addition to responding to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and working the recovery efforts, and retired NYPD ESU Detective Mike Corr spoke to Dan Barry of the New York Times comparing the two events and discussing the difficulties faced by those on the pile and those awaiting word in Florida.

“They will be hoping to recover a part of a loved one and — at the same time — dreading it, because of the pain,” Joseph Pfeifer said of the families, knowing their pain, because his brother, FDNY Lt. Kevin Pfeifer, was killed in the attacks.
