FDNY welcomes two brave cancer-fighting kids into its ranks at Randalls Island ceremony

Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro swore in two new honorary firefighters on May 31, 2016. Trucker Dukes, 3, and River Laurence, 4, are both fighting stage 4 neuroblastoma in NYC, far from their homes in Hawaii and Texas

‘”It’s inspirational to me that they want to be a part of the FDNY, that they’re brave as they are at such a young age, to be fighting against this life threatening disease as many of our members are.” Nigro said during a ceremony at the department’s Fire Academy on Randalls Island,’ reported Chelsia Rose Marcius and Leonard Greene in the New York Daily News.
