Dying firefighter, sick from 9/11 illness, fights last battle: A spot on FDNY Wall of Honor

Retired FDNY Firefighter Ray Pfeifer, 59, is in hospice care for terminal brain, lung, and adrenal cancer, reports Mary Murphy of PIX11. He is well known in the September 11th community for his tireless fight to renew the Zadroga Act, often traveling  to Washington DC in his wheelchair to beg politicians to renew the health coverage for those sick from the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

His last wish is to have his name and the names of all firefighters who die of World Trade Center-related illnesses to be included on FDNY’s main Wall of Honor, rather than the secondary wall nearby, where those names are currently placed.

‘“We should be on the wall which started in 1865,” Pfeifer said. “I feel that I’m being poisoned, and I’m dying, every single day, because of terrorism.”’
