The Biden administration is moving towards the closure of the military prison at Guantanamo Bay Cuba. The efforts are low-key at present, but there is a decided attempt to take action before the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
The administration is hoping that foreign countries will take in some of the remaining prisoners, while transferring the rest to the United States’ mainland. Those detainees held in regard to the 9/11 terrorist attacks are due to be held in the US.
Biden officials say he hopes to close the prison before his first term ends, report Carol E. Lee and Courtney Kube for NBC News.
