‘Amazing dad and husband’: NYPD officer killed by drunken driver remembered fondly by Queens, Long Island neighbors

Friends and neighbors of NYPD Highway Officer Anastasios Tsakos, who has been killed in a hit and run by a drunken driver, remember him with praise and love.

Officer Tsakos, 42, was married with two children, aged 6 and 3. The family moved to East Northport less than a year ago, but already have made a great impression on the neighbours

Simone Giacalone, who lived nearby contracted COVID-19 and told Brittany Kriegstein, Wes Parnell and Larry McShane of the New York Daily News, “He brought us food every day. His wife made soups for us. He texted me almost every day: ‘Do you need cold cuts? Do you need bread? Tell me, tell me.’”

Rosemarie Giacalone, who lived next door to the Tsakos family, said, “He treated us like we’ve known him for many years. Just that warm, friendly guy that was willing to help you out whenever you needed.”
