After 20 years, Jeff Coombs road race reaches the finish line

The Jeff Coombs Memorial Road Race has ended after twenty years. Every year since 9/11 the event has raised about $50,000 for the Jeff Coombs Memorial Foundation, raising more than $1,000,000 overall. Jeff Coombs was 43 years old when he was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks when his plane, American Airlines Flight 11, was flown into the World Trade Center.

The Jeff Coombs Memorial Foundation helps Massachusetts families who are coping with death, illness or other tragedies, writes Wheeler Cowperthwaite for The Patriot Ledger.

Christie Coombs, Jeff’s wife and the foundation’s founder, said, “I wanted to wait until I was ready to go. At 15 years, I decided to bring it to an end, and I found I was surprisingly calm.”
