Retired Army Reservist Captain and NYPD Lieutenant Anthony Caruso deployed to Iraq and worked the recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site.
He now, like so many others, copes with recurring health problems, in his case asthma, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), sleep apnea, and the growth of polyps on his nose, vocal cords, and colon, all fortunately benign. Many of his friends and colleagues have died of site-related illnesses, reports Christopher Collora for Long Island Patch.
He wants everyone eligible to apply for the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, saying, “Anybody that was down there at Ground Zero – and that’s probably tens of thousands of people, that over the years got sick because of their exposure to that toxic air – they have to be aware of where to go for help. They have to be educated about what options they have.”
