Department of Education to contact 19,000 former “9/11 students” about free medical care

City officials are tracking down the former students who attended public schools in Lower Manhattan on September 11, 2001 to inform them about their health risks and about the World Trade Center Health Program.

There are approximately 19,000 former students and 3,000 teachers who would have been in the area on or after 9/11, reports Carl Campanile for the NY Post.

Letters are expected to go out within the next few weeks. A social media campaign is also planned.

Borough of Manhattan Community College has contacted its former students who were enrolled there during the 2001-2002 school year as well.
