‘9/11 Responders Remembered’ memorial to add 163 names

The 9/11 Responders Remembered Park Memorial, the Nesconset memorial to those who have died of World Trade Center-related illnesses, will add 163 more names to its wall in their annual ceremony on September 15.

Roughly 1,200 names are already on the wall.

Suffolk County Police Officer Thomas Wilson, who suffers from oral cancer and lost his tongue to the disease, spoke to News 12 Long Island about the memorial. He spent time at the World Trade Center site and the search for remains at Fresh Kills Landfill after the attacks.

“I’m here and I’m not on that wall yet, and that’s that,” he told reporters.“People are still dying. I’m grateful to be alive.”
