NYC task force to aid hurricane response in Carolinas

Running in when others run out, the NYPD and FDNY are sending an 83-person, 6-dog task force to Kinston, North Carolina ahead of Hurricane Florence, which is reported to be the worst storm in 60 years.

“We had approximately 40 guys from our team that were killed on 9/11…It is a significant day and we’re proud to go down and follow their legacies,” said FDNY Battalion Chief Joe Downey, the son of DC Ray Downey, who was killed in the attacks.

New York Task Force 1 is handpicked and trained in a wide variety of rescue techniques. They have deployed to many hurricanes and disasters, reports Angi Gonzalez for NY1.
