Prosecution ties Guantanamo detainee to 9/11 hijackers

Former FBI Special Agent Abigail Perkins testified at Guantanamo Bay that alleged 9/11 conspirator Mustafa Ahmad al Hawsawi had financial dealings with two of the 9/11 hijackers, and that al Hawasi had no regret for the deaths of the people aboard, report Oyin Falana and Ricky Zipp of the Medill News Service.

Perkins, whose career has focused on al-Qaida, identified a number of financial documents demonstrating financial links between al Hawsawi and hijackers Mohammad Atta and Fayez Bani Hammad, both of whom flew the doomed planes during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, including transactions dated September 10, 2001.

Al Hawasi and his four co-defendants will be jointly tried on charges including terrorism, conspiracy and murder under the laws of war.The focus of this week’s hearing is on the al Hawsawi links to the attacks. The case against al Hawsawi is primarily based on his financing the attacks.
