9/11 EMT fighting cancer gets help to move around

FDNY EMT Sal Turturici, who suffers from World Trade Center-related liver cancer, has received a new motorized wheelchair from the Ray Pfeifer Foundation, reports Amanda Farinacci for NY1.

Turturici was a rookie EMT at the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The four-month-old Ray Pfeifer Foundation honors FDNY Firefighter Ray Pfeifer, who tirelessly worked to reinstate the Zadroga Act after politicians allowed it to expire. Ray fought for Zadroga’s 9/11 health coverage despite suffering from stage 4 cancer himself. Pfeifer died of his illness earlier this year.
