Joanne ‘Jojo’ Capestro escaped from May Davis Group on the 87th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center just before it collapsed during the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001. She was unaware that a photographer had taken a picture of her, shoeless and covered in dust.
She and that photographer, Phil Penman, met in 2015 at an exhibit of 9/11 photos and on August 11, 2018, 17 years after the attacks, Penman was the photographer at her Coney Island wedding.
“Phil was with me on the best day of my life and the worst day of my life,” Ms. Capestro told Amy-Clare Martin of the Daily Mirror.
