Why Mark Messier’s iconic 9/11 jersey will be auctioned

The jersey worn by Mark Messier in the 2001-02 Rangers-Sabres game will be auctioned to benefit the Twin Towers Fund, writes Larry Brooks in the NY Post. The jersey is shown in the famous photo of Messier wearing the helmet of the FDNY’s Deputy Chief Ray Downey, who was killed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

The jersey was designed and intended to be auctioned for the benefit of victims of the attacks.
