‘We didn’t want to tell a 9/11 story’ – creators of ‘Come from Away’ discuss its European premiere in Dublin

Come from Away, the hit musical about the kindness of the people of Newfoundland to thousands stranded there by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, continues to expand its reach. It will have its European premiere in Dublin on December 6, 2018. Here, David Hein and Irene Sankoff, its creators, spoke to John Meagher of Independent IE about how the show developed and plans for more stagings and a possible film.

Sankoff said, “We’re so used to seeing things on the news that are devastating, but to see something that is unbelievably good is such a relief. It celebrates a kind of unique bravery that you don’t often see rewarded enough. It’s a reminder that people are capable of such good.”
