USS Arlington Crew Names Passageways for County Thoroughfares

Sun Gazette

Finally! A discussion about Columbia Pike that doesn’t include a debate over a streetcar.

Sailors of the new USS Arlington have voted to name the main port passageway of their ship for South Arlington’s primary thoroughfare, and also have chosen to name the main starboard passageway “Arlington Boulevard.”

It’s all part of a growing relationship between the crew and its namesake community.

Sailors also decided to place a sign saying “Pentagon Metro” at the marshalling area, where Marines gather to board landing craft.

The ship is slated for commissioning April 6 in Hampton Roads.
