Trump set to sign bill permanently bankrolling 9/11 victims fund, but ‘a bitter taste’ remains for survivors

A long fight should end on Monday when the President signs H.R. 1327: the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act into law. The law will permanently fund the federal fund that assists those sickened by exposure to the debris from the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The fund was previously dragged through red tape for years, forcing sick recovery workers to beg Congress for funding for more than a decade. Many of those who fought so valiantly have died.

John Feal, a recovery worker who has led the fight to pass the act, told Chris Sommerfeldt of the New York Daily News, “This could have been finished long ago. We’ve been trying to get this done for 15 years.”
