Trial of September 11 defendants at Guantánamo delayed until August 2021

All hearings in the Guantánamo case against five alleged 9/11 plotters have been cancelled, and because of personnel changes and pandemic restrictions, the trial cannot begin until at least August 2021, reports Sacha Pfeiffer for NPR.

The military court’s new judge, Col. Stephen F. Keane, who began the job a month ago, is the fourth judge to serve on the case and needs time to familiarize himself with its issues.

The lead attorney for one of the defendants and the administrative head of the military court are also new to their positions.
