Summerville High senior raises more than $71,000 for 9/11 memorial

More than $71,000 was raised for a September 11th memorial in Tuolumme, California by Candace Olsen, 17. She earned the money through a barbecue, silent auction and from donations.

The money will be held in a foundation account until it goes to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post 4748 in Tuolumne for them to use to build a 9/11 memorial outside of their Memorial Hall, reports Giuseppe Ricapito for theĀ Union Democrat.

Ground will be broken for the memorial in June of 2019. A September 11, 2019 unveiling is planned.
