On December 6, 2018, USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park hosted a ceremony with the Spirit of Liberty Foundation honoring our military with the ringing of a special bell. The Freedom Bell, cast on the 69th anniversary of D-Day, is made of bronze and 11 pounds of metal salvaged from the World Trade Center. It is decorated with seals of each branch of the U.S. military and a star for each of the states of the U.S., reports Kristen Wong for DVIDS.
Military families were allowed to ring the bell to honor their loved one’s service for several days following the December 6, 2018 ceremony.
