Southside demolition yields 9/11 memorial plaque honoring OS2 Nehamon Lyons IV

A stone tablet honoring the memory of US Navy Specialist Nehamon Lyons IV was recently removed from the former Southside Elementary School for safekeeping when the school was razed, writes Tia Lyons in the Eldorado News of Arkansas.

The plaque was flush with the ground and in danger of damage during the demolition work. It is being held safely at City Hall.

The tablet may be added to the 9/11 memorial at the El Dorado Conference Center, where this year’s ceremony honoring the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 is scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2016.

OS2 Nehamon Lyons IV was a 30-year-old man with a large family and a wide smile who planned to spend his career serving his country. He was killed when terrorists hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 and flew it into the Pentagon, killing 184 people.
