A survivor of the September 11th terrorist attacks who asked to be known only as “Sue” to keep her medical issues private, has stage-4 cancer due to her exposure to the dust of the World Trade Center.
Staten Island resident and single mom “Sue” was working in the mezzanine of the north tower on 9/11. A blood drive was planned, and she worked for the New York Blood Center, reports Joseph Ostapiuk Staten Island Advance. Her cancer began as a benign tumor near her ear, but it became malignant and spread. Her cancer, like so many of those among the 9/11 community, is considered to be very rare.
She attributes her survival to medical treatments made possible by the Victim Compensation Fund.
