A bipartisan group of U.S. Congressmembers has introduced legislation in the House of Representatives to provide basic protection for search and rescue dogs and handlers when they respond to federally-declared disasters.
Currently, search and rescue dogs teams are not covered against travel, lodging, and dining restrictions in the way that service dogs are. H.R. 2623, the Search and Rescue Dog Protection Act, will, if passed, correct this problem.
