Scholarship continues legacy of late NYPD Det. Luis Alvarez

Scholarships in the name of retired NYPD Detective Luis Alvarez are helping the children of those who are sick or who have died from World Trade Center-related illnesses, reports Matthew Chayes for NY Newsday. He talks with Jack Santoro, Tommy and Ryan Wilson, beneficiaries of Alvarez scholarships.

Luis Alvarez died of World Trade Center-related cancer in June of 2019, shortly after testifying before Congress to fund the Victim Compensation Fund and his heartbreaking testimony is largely responsible for the refunding.
