Recently deceased 9/11 Firefighter William Gormley inspires new team in upcoming Tunnel to Towers Run

FDNY Firefighter Billy Gormley, who died this summer from World Trade Center-related lung cancer, will be honored with a team in his name for this year’s Tunnel to Towers Run, reports Danielle Kogan for the Brooklyn Reporter.

Kathy Khatari, Gormley’s sister, and other members of the family formed the team to honor Gormley, 53, and to raise awareness for how sick many recovery workers are from their exposure to toxins at the site of the former World Trade Center. She hopes to hold a fundraiser before the walk as well, and one day to start a William J. Gormley scholarship for firefighters and their families.
