Ray Pfeifer, FDNY firefighter who worked at Ground Zero, honored by Nassau officials

Retired firefighter Ray Pfeifer is battling stage 4 cancer that has been attributed to his work in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks. His illness did not stop him from fighting for — and winning — the renewal of the Zadroga Act. His work was rewarded by Nassau County on Monday, January 25, 2016 with a key to the county.

“’We’re dying from the terrorists — 14 years later — we still are,’ said Pfeifer, who received a standing ovation from members of the public packed inside the Legislature’s chambers in Mineola. ‘All I did was go down and fight the politicians who wanted to fight us’,” wrote Nicole Fuller in the January 25, 2016 Newsday.
