The Port Authority Police Department lost 37 officers in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Five of them, and one PAPD K-9 officer who died of World Trade Center-related cancer in 2009, were recently honored by having PAPD K-9s named for them, reports Jenna DeAngelis of CBS News.

• K-9 Mazza, in honor of Captain Kathy Mazza (end of watch September 11, 2001)
• K-9 Nava, in honor of Officer Joseph Navas (end of watch September 11, 2001)
• K-9 Gonja, in honor of Officer Uhuru “Gonja” Houston (end of watch September 11, 2001)
• K-9 Mack, in honor of Officer Donald McIntyre (end of watch September 11, 2001)
• K-9 Tazzo, in honor of Officer John Cortazzo (end of watch 2009)
The dogs will work in explosives and narcotics detection at airports, tunnels and bridges around the city.
