Peter Ganci III, son of FDNY chief killed on 9/11, promoted to captain

Peter Ganci III is now an FDNY captain.

His father, FDNY Chief of Department Peter Ganci, was killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He had a chance to escape, but refused to leave his men and was killed in the collapse of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, reports Todd Maisel for AMNY.

Daniel Nigro, who survived the 9/11 attacks, and is now FDNY Commissioner, told the crowd, “Captain Ganci is the son of my good friend Chief Ganci and he led the operations at the World Trade Center. He would’ve like to have seen his son climb the ranks and continue the name Ganci in the name of service to this city.”
