Pentagon’s 9/11 memorial will close for repairs on September 16

The Pentagon Memorial honoring the 184 people killed in the Pentagon and aboard Flight 77 during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, will close for repairs on September 16, 2019.

The 184 benches, one for each person killed, each have an illuminated pool underneath. Water from the pools is damaging the light fixtures. These pools are scheduled for repair between September 16, 2019 and November 2019. The Memorial Gateway will be fixed after that, reports Dan Friedell for WTOP.

Both the Pentagon’s Chapel and the September 11th Memorial within the chapel will remain open despite the repairs outside.
