NY’s politicians begin search for FDNY health program funding

The struggle to get the nearly $4,000,000 in FDNY healthcare funds returned from the U.S. Treasury Department has begun, and it looks like it will a long battle for justice.

Treasury officials say the funds were withheld beginning in 2004 because of debts other NYC agencies owed to the Treasury. Taking the funds from desperately ill World Trade Center recovery workers happened, because the fund shares the same taxpayer identification number as delinquent funds, reports Randi F. Marshall for Newsday.

NY politicians have written to the head of the Treasury Department to demand the return of the missing funds.
