NYC caves and authorizes WTC benefits for FF Joe Daly — after claiming his cancer was caused by drinking and not by his time at Ground Zero

Joe Daly, an FDNY firefighter with cancer who worked during the recovery operations at the World Trade Center site, will finally receive the full 9/11 disability pension to which he has long been entitled, reports Thomas Tracy for New York Daily News.

City officials claimed that Daly’s illnesses were caused by drinking, causing the family difficulty, red tape and embarrassment.

FF Daly retired from Engine 218. He suffers from several site-related cancers, including liver cancer.
