The new Statue of Liberty Museum opened today on Liberty Island.
Visitors can trace the history of the statue, touch a model of the foot, and add to a digital gallery while you learn about one of New York’s greatest icons, reports Derick Waller for WABC Eyewitness News
The original torch, which was replaced in 1986, is in the museum as well.
Stephen Briganti, president of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, told reporters, “It’s there for everybody, and it’s there with the understanding that it stands for liberty. How can you fight with that? Democracy, freedom, we all want that.”
