New Liberty Park set to open next week

Liberty Park, a new elevated park peppered with shade trees and benches overlooking the September 11th Memorial will open next week. Ultimately, Liberty Park will become the grounds of the new St. Nicholas National Shrine writes Maria Alvarez in Newsday.

The park is owned by the Port Authority, and sits atop the Vehicle Security Center on Liberty Street.

St. Nicholas National Shrine will replace St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church that was destroyed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.The marble shrine should be completed in early 2018.
