The Suffolk County Police held a memorial service honoring their officers who died in the line of duty, including those who died of World Trade Center-related illness and COVID-19, reports Robert Brodsky for Newsday.
Officer Craig Capolino died in 2013 from World Trade Center-linked cancer. He was an NYPD detective at the time of the attacks, and spent three months at the sifting operations at Fresh Kills Landfill. He later joined the Suffolk PD. A 2020 ceremony was cancelled because of the pandemic.
Also honored was Suffolk County Police Lt. Robert Van Zeyl, who was the force’s only COVID-19 casualty.
